NITON AND WHITWELL PARISH COUNCIL

CO-OPTION OF MEMBERS

The Parish Council will consider the co-option of one person to serve for the Niton Ward and two persons to serve for the Whitwell Ward on the Niton and Whitwell Parish Council at a meeting to be held at The Exchange, High Street, Niton on Tuesday 27th May 2025 at 7:15pm.

Persons wishing to be considered and who are eligible* to serve as a Parish Councillor should notify the Parish Clerk in writing (to the address below), under their own signature by Friday 23rd May 2025.

Prospective candidates will be asked to attend the meeting on 27th May 2025.

* A local councillor must be 18 years of age or over and a British subject or qualifying Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland or a citizen of another Member State of the European Community

He/she must also fulfil at least one of the following criteria: –

i) During the whole of the 12 months before nomination occupied land or premises as owner or tenant in the parish area, or,
ii) During the same period resided in the Parish, or within 4.8 km thereof, or
iii) During the same period had his/her principal or only place of work in that Parish, or
iv) At the time of nomination be registered as a local government elector for the administrative area of the Parish.

The person should not be disqualified from being elected by reason of any disqualification set out in Section 80 of the Local Government Act 1972, or any decision made under section 79 of the Local Government Act 2000.
