In May 1981, ownership of the Village Green at Castlehaven was vested in Niton and Whitwell Parish Council. As with any site that is so open to the elements, it now requires some care and attention. Parts of the Green are unsightly and, of greater concern, some areas could be considered dangerous. As a result, the Parish Council has undertaken a restoration project together with Gift to Nature, an Island-based expert organisation that we feel has the experience and track record to improve our Village Green in a way that is sensitive to the environment as well as generally improving the area for the many visitors and users of the harbour. From the start of this project, it was apparent how many people really do love this beautiful part of our Parish.
We are very pleased to announce that, after consultation with Natural England, the Isle of Wight Council and the Harbour Club, works have now been approved by the Parish Council and the first phase will be started this summer. The Parish Council intends this to be a long-term project.
