Wednesday 23rd August saw 12 parishioners packed into the Community Action minibus for an afternoon Parish excursion to the Donkey Sanctuary at Wroxall, followed by the Old Smithy at Godshill and an opportunity for a cream tea.

My thanks, as always, to our driver, Chairman BG, and to everyone who came along. If you missed it, watch out for notices of excursions coming up, which will be to Arreton Craft Barns in mid-October and then Busy Bee “Christmas World”/Tesco Ryde in December. We’re also planning a panto trip in early January (Oh no, we’re not; oh yes, we are 😊)

This year’s Island Celebrating Age Festival 2017 runs from International Older Persons Day on Sunday 1st October through to 7th October. The Festival promotes the richness and diversity of the Isle of Wight’s communities with events to interest everyone. There are many regular favourites like coffee afternoons, singing groups, Men in Sheds open afternoon along with the knit and natter sessions. To find out about Age Friendly Island visit:

The recent news of Niton Football Club re-locating to Rookley for its home matches is of great concern to Parish Council members. We are continuing to work with Cllr Dave Stewart and the Isle of Wight Council to ensure that there is no breach of planning conditions for the development of the site and to help safeguard the Club’s future in Niton village.

If you are a Whitwell resident, you may be aware of the proposed development on land rear of Saint Michael’s, High Street, Whitwell. By the time you read this, there should have been a widely-publicised local consultation day at the White Horse Inn, or, at least, the event should be imminent. The architect has assured us that no approach whatsoever will be made to the Local Planning Authority (the Isle of Wight Council) until after this local consultation has taken place.

A reminder that the much-needed work to replace the water main in Ventnor Road/Whitwell High Street will be starting in early November. Southern Water has organised a customer drop in session from 16:00 to 19:00 on Thursday 5th October at the White Horse Inn. Please do go along if you have any concerns relating to the scheme.

Vickie Ford, Parish Clerk
